Holy moly! This was an insane read. I sincerely hope that we all feel morally compelled -- regardless of our religious affiliation -- to share resources with our community, starting with teaching our kids how to share, since it's clear from your research that sharing is a taught behavior. Thanks for reminding us all that there are a limited number of swings and everyone can have a chance to play... if someone doesn't hog it all for selfish purposes. Happy everything. Emi and family!
Hi Emi I found the article about parents thinking kids can raise themselves was quite amusing and disturbing…here’s a thought, teach your kids both! how to share and to not let people walk on you. I just happened to be in a therapist office the other day and a dad was dropping off his son. He told the therapist that he had been acting out when he didn’t want to do something or eat something so if she could work with him on that. I almost laughed out loud and wanted to tell this dumbass that’s what little kids do! Do your job,be a parent, teach your kids to be decent people
Well, it sheds some light on some conversations I saw amongst mothers months ago on social media. I couldn't understand at the time why so many moms were so adamant about sharing at playgrounds. This article helps explain where these ideas have come from. It's very troubling to me that I'm seeing Ayn Rand-type methodology seeping into parenting styles, though another part of me is not at all surprised. I will say that I'm very thankful that the majority of parents and caregivers that I interact with at our local parks teach their kids to share and to take turns as my husband and I do.

Equating sole ownership with healthy self-regard is just another form of the oft-invoked American dream.
