Acceptance in Paperback, Minneapolis Event this Saturday + NYC and Cambridge Events
Come celebrate the end of my non-stop self-promotion!
Hi friends,
I’ve been so grateful for all of your support over the last year since Acceptance came out in hardcover. It’s been a wild year doing everything I could to get this book into the right hands and it’s seen so many of my teenage dreams come true: writing for The Atlantic, becoming a baby journalist, telling my story and actually, somehow, being believed. (I also turned 30, experienced the breakdown of my corporal form, and can no longer eat garlic. Truly what I imagined for my future!)
On August 1st, Acceptance is coming out in paperback, closing this chapter:
I’m thrilled to have such a beautiful cover that I hope will resonate with The Youth. It’s also more portable and — best of all — cheaper. (I’m not sure I’d EVER bought a $27 hardcover before becoming an author. If you bought one of mine, or ten, you’re the GOAT.)
If you know someone who needs this book - parents, educators, anyone navigating the big acceptances of life - I'd be beyond grateful if you shared! Book bans have made it increasingly hard to discover stories about the big issues: I’ve gotten emails from librarians who want to stock Acceptance but might not be able to for the frank way it the realities of being a teenager. In this climate, word of mouth is more important than ever!
Come celebrate with me!
I’d love to see you for my final hurrahs for this book. I promise these will be very different from previous events because if I discuss the same topics one more time I’ll pass out.
TOMORROW July 8, Minneapolis, MN: 1:30pm, Wordplay Festival in conversation with Rachel Louise Snyder and Juliet Patterson. Tickets here.
August 3: NYC launch at Greenlight Books, in conversation with New Yorker writer (and idol) Rachel Aviv - drinks to follow!
August 8: Cambridge, MA at Harvard Bookstore in conversation with Kate Doyle, author of the gorgeous new short story collection I Meant It Once. We’ll be talking about women's coming-of-age stories — both fictional and real. Libations after!
I'll also be visiting classrooms, doing community reads, and hosting a panel for families and youth navigating applications. I’ll be sharing more information here on my newsletter. And if there’s anyone I should collaborate with, please let me know.
Thank you so much for all of your support over the last seventeen or so years. I’ve been so grateful to have such amazing friends, family, and readers. This process has gutted me and, thanks to you, restored some of my faith in humanity.
With gratitude,
Emi
Congratulations on the paperback release, Emi. And I'm excited to say, I will be in visiting my son in Brooklyn when you are at Greenlights. See you there! :)
Hi Emi just wanted to say again what a great inspirational story that has helped me in so many ways. I recommend it to everyone I talk to
